Role: Trainee Yard Operative

Location - Newport Depot

General Working hours are Monday to Friday, day shift, but occasional weekend work may be required, so you must be flexible!

Responsibilities of a Trainee Yard Operative:

As a Trainee Yard Operative at our Newport depot, you will receive hands-on training and support while learning how to keep the yard organised, prepare equipment, and support our traffic management crews. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Traffic Management: Learn how to provide clean cones, filled sandbags, and signage that are fit for purpose to traffic management operatives.
  • Preparing Equipment: Learn how to ensure the correct quantity of traffic signals are ready and fuelled before collection by traffic management crews.
  • Creating Custom Signage: Receive training to fabricate special signage as required for specific works.
  • Quality Control: Learn how to visually check all signs and cones for damage upon return from the site and log any issues.
  • Battery Management: Learn how to secure, account for, and charge all batteries in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintaining Equipment: Support with cleaning, re-sleeving, re-basing, and security marking cones to ensure they are in top condition.
  • Organising the Yard: Return all yard equipment to its correct locations, including pedestrian barriers, signs, cones, and sandbags.
  • General Yard Duties: Perform various yard duties as instructed by the Yard Supervisor.
  • Adhering to Procedures: Follow all company procedures regarding quality, health, safety, and environmental issues.

  • Full UK driving licence with less than 6 points - manual licence only
