Location - Hybrid – Home based plus our office in Bottesford, Nottinghamshire

Hours - Mon Fri - 8:30am to 5pm

This position is suitable for an experienced software engineer with a proven background in developing new solutions.

About the role of Embedded Firmware Engineer

HRS is the leading European provider of smart technology for temporary traffic management worksites. By designing, manufacturing and operating our new digital products, we are changing how Connected and Autonomous vehicles will interact with the roadworks of the future.  Our technology platform uses the latest 4G/IoT communications, high precision GNSS, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Cloud services.

Therefore, as an Embedded Firmware Engineer you will work on a range of innovative IoT applications around smart connected products. You will be working with an experienced engineering team to develop new products from the conceptual design stage, right up to customer field trials and mass production.

This is a hands-on role, where you will be expected to design, implement and test new designs, along with upgrades to existing products.

What good looks like for an Embedded Firmware Engineer

Essential:

• 7 or more years of embedded C development experience, plus at least one other embedded language (preferably C++).
• A range of bare metal and RTOS experience.
• Experience with development tools such as Kiel and TI Code Composer Studio.
• A strong understanding of low powered local radio network technologies and configuration toolsets.
• An organised mindset, paying suitable attention to documentation and process.
• Ability to create effective and efficient code, implementing best design and debug practices.
• Experience of the full development lifecycle, from initial feasibility and concept design to validation, certification and ongoing support.
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• An appreciation of hardware, and the ability to understand schematics.
• Experience developing high reliability or safety critical systems (MISRA experience would be advantageous)

Desirable.

• Cellular and sub 1GHz radio technologies and experience with GNSS.
• Experience in high reliability or safety critical development.
• Working as part of an Agile development team.
• Experience of Jira, GitHub and Continuous Integration (CI) environments.
