Build a People service that is close to the business and connected to the Group

Class One Traffic Management, part of Ramudden Global UK, is looking for an experienced HR & Payroll Manager to provide operational People and payroll leadership across our activities in Scotland and Northern Ireland. This is a visible, hands-on role based at our Bonnybridge office five days a week, with travel to other operational locations when required.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Class One Traffic Management, and with a formal dotted-line relationship to the Ramudden Global UK People Director, you will be embedded in the Class One business. You will ensure local delivery is commercially responsive, legally compliant and aligned with Group People strategy, policies, systems and governance.

Role Overview for HR & Payroll Manager

  • Provide trusted, practical People advice to leaders and managers across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
  • Manage and lead a team (4) of Payroll, HR and recruitment professionals within the Bonnybridge office
  • Lead and support employee relations activity, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and complex absence cases, escalating sensitive or high-risk matters through central People governance.
  • Oversee accurate and timely end-to-end fortnightly payroll delivery, including validation of timesheets, rates, allowances, deductions, leave, pensions, salary sacrifice and statutory payments.
  • Work closely with the central People Team to implement Group policies, systems, reporting cycles, organisational initiatives and agreed standards consistently.
  • Support Northern Ireland operations, recognising the distinct employment, equality and statutory reporting framework and seeking specialist input where appropriate.
  • Coordinate Northern Ireland equality monitoring, reporting and record keeping, including relevant Equality Commission requirements.
  • Maintain accurate HR and payroll data, produce meaningful workforce information and highlight emerging People risks and priorities.
  • Coach managers, strengthen management capability and contribute to workforce planning, organisational change, engagement and business improvement projects.
  • Liaise with Finance on payroll controls, reconciliations, year-end activity and month-end reporting.
  • Contribute operational insight to policy and process development while ensuring formal Group approval and governance are maintained.

 

What we are looking for

 

  • Experience in a HR generalist, HR Manager, People Manager or combined HR and payroll role.
  • Employee relations expertise and sound knowledge of employment law in Scotland with Northern Ireland knowledge or the ability to build it quickly.
  • Hands-on payroll management experience, including checking, validation, pensions, statutory payments and compliance.
  • Confident in advising and constructively challenging managers at all levels across a multi-site operational environment.
  • Excellent judgement, organisation, communication and attention to detail.
  • Experience using HR and payroll systems and producing workforce reports and insight.
  • Willingness to work from Bonnybridge five days per week and travel to other sites as role requires.

Desirable

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience using Sage Payroll.
  • Experience supporting transport, infrastructure or another operationally intensive environment.
  • Knowledge of working-time requirements relevant to operational or transport workforces.
